My Brother, the Pilot

My brother Kyle told me that July was the perfect month to visit him in Phoenix, so I decided to take him up on his offer to show me a good time. He and his girlfriend Sarah, whom I failed to photograph for this post, took me out to their favorite italian restaraunt, which is in a strip mall right next to Bob's Guns and Pawn. Despite the location, the food was excellent. After dinner we got in the hot tub because there was a definite chill in the air. I believe the temperature had dipped into the low 90's.

Certainly the highlight of my trip was Kyle taking me flying. We had heard rumors that he was a pilot, but no one had actually seen him fly and the family elected me to go down and see if the rumors were true. I should note that Jake was the one dissenting vote in the matter. Anywho, I am happy to report that Kyle is not only a pilot, but a very good one at that. He did fight me a little when I requested a barf bag before take off "just in case". There wasn't one in the plane, and he said that I should just throw up in his backpack. Um, no. Go get me a barf bag. He walked all the way back to the terminal to get the bag that I am happy to report I never used. In fact, it was extremely smooth from take off to landing and I was never even the least bit nervous. We spent almost 90 minutes flying over the southern portion of Maricopa county and Casa Grande. Not a whole lot to see, but fun. I even got to fly the plane for a few minutes, which is actually easier than driving a car, but I didn't like the responsibility so I gave up the controls pretty quickly.

All in all my very brief trip to Phoenix was good times. I certainly don't miss living there though, it's just a tad warm and very humid this week with the monsoons. Those very monsoons caused many flights out of Sky Harbor to be delayed, which made my trip home turn into a 9 hour ordeal. But I am home safe and sound, and that's all that matters. Right Jake?
